2 Days In A Row
I am not sure if running two days in a row was the smartest decision, but damn did it feel good. I have been recovering from pulling my achilles tendon a month ago and I have kept myself from running over the past month. I turned to Bikram Yoga to help me recover and boy has it helped. It has been hard not running at all, but I have been through injuries before and the best thing to do is to let your body heal.
Sometimes though we getting these inner urges to test the waters. I had my inner runner urging me to see how my achilles was doing. I went back and forth with myself questioning whether or not I should go run. Well the stubborn inner runner in me won. Before heading out the door I decided not to run in my Vibrams but in my Brooks Ravennas. As much as I enjoy running in my Vibrams and want to get back into wearing them majority of the time, I thought to myself I didn’t want to send my achilles back into shock again.
About an hour later in the sweltering heat my face had a huge grin on it. I ran around the city slowly, but I loved every moment of those 60 minutes. The moment I got home, I did some serious Bikram inspired calf stretching, runners stretch, and I iced my achilles just to be safe. The rest of the day went well knock on wood, my achilles did not flair up nor was I walking around like a hobbit.
Fast forward to this morning. I told myself, no running today only Bikram. Well once again that stubborn runner in me won and I went running. This time I wore my Bikrams….and so far I am doing ok! I did a lot of foot and calf stretching before and after the run and only ran for 40 minutes followed by some weight training. I am hoping the rest of the day progresses well and I do not end up like I did a month ago. Tomorrow, there will be no running only Bikram and the stubborn inner runner will not win. I know whats better for me and Bikram tomorrow will be perfect.
Like I said before injuries suck, but the best way to handle them is to trust yourself and be patient.
Happy Sunday :)
