Yogi Toes

I finally gave in and bought a large sized Yogitoes mat the other day! Today was morning two of using the mat and I can say it makes a big difference in my practice. My feet were not sliding and I was not having to adjust my towel all the time. The mat is super absorbant and hypo-allergenic, which is another bonus! I am so happy with my choice of buying a Yogitoes mat and especially this one because it helps bring awareness to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation!

Who likes their betas?

I do! I love my beta-carotenes and sweet potatoes are full of them! Tonight for dinner I sauteed cod, baked a sweet potato, kale salad, and a side of Ezekiel bread with apricot jelly on top. Dinner was the bomb.com and I have always been a huge fan of sweet potatoes because they taste great and are full of nutrients. Sweet potatoes are an all-star vegetable, they are loaded with carotenoids, vitamin C, potassium, and fiber. Just one sweet potato contains 438% of your Vitamin A DV% and 37% of your Vitamin C DV%. Wow O Wow, that’s a lot of goodness packed into a vegetable!

Now go enjoy one!

A Daily Dose of Reminders

tinyeedz:

Think good thoughts; you are your own worst critic. Speak words of compassion, words that radiate with positive energy. Lastly, with your heart, open it wide and send out all its goodness to those you care about and will care about, from your past, present, and future. Namaste.

New Find At Trader Joe's

After work I hit up good ole Trader Joe’s and found something so tasty while perusing the isles. I found these vegan-tastic chicken-less stuffed cutlets and they were so good that I decided to fix both (the box has two)! Each cutlet was filled with corn and black beans and had a spicy tomato sauce to pour on top. So for dinner I had the two cutlets over a bed of quinoa with a side brussel sprout and mixed green salad. I was in vegan heaven, so so good! This dish reminded me of something I would get at the Sunflower Cafe back home in Atlanta or at Cafe Green here in DC.

Anywho… how about a running update?! So this morning I was going to go to Bikram, but my Brooks won and I was out the door running! Overall it was a great run, I can feel my achilles getting stronger by the day. Not to mention, the extremely good looking cops I saw on their morning bike ride, made the sun shine a little brighter. Thank goodness though I didn’t trip and fall this time when I saw them, yes…yes I did that a few weeks ago.

That’s all for now, enjoy your evening :)

2 Days In A Row

I am not sure if running two days in a row was the smartest decision, but damn did it feel good. I have been recovering from pulling my achilles tendon a month ago and I have kept myself from running over the past month. I turned to Bikram Yoga to help me recover and boy has it helped. It has been hard not running at all, but I have been through injuries before and the best thing to do is to let your body heal.

Sometimes though we getting these inner urges to test the waters. I had my inner runner urging me to see how my achilles was doing. I went back and forth with myself questioning whether or not I should go run. Well the stubborn inner runner in me won. Before heading out the door I decided not to run in my Vibrams but in my Brooks Ravennas. As much as I enjoy running in my Vibrams and want to get back into wearing them majority of the time, I thought to myself I didn’t want to send my achilles back into shock again.

About an hour later in the sweltering heat my face had a huge grin on it. I  ran around the city slowly, but I loved every moment of those 60 minutes. The moment I got home, I did some serious Bikram inspired calf stretching, runners stretch, and I iced my achilles just to be safe. The rest of the day went well knock on wood, my achilles did not flair up nor was I walking around like a hobbit.

Fast forward to this morning. I told myself, no running today only Bikram. Well once again that stubborn runner in me won and I went running. This time I wore my Bikrams….and so far I am doing ok! I did a lot of foot and calf stretching before and after the run and only ran for 40 minutes followed by some weight training. I am hoping the rest of the day progresses well and I do not end up like I did a month ago. Tomorrow, there will be no running only Bikram and the stubborn inner runner will not win. I know whats better for me and Bikram tomorrow will be perfect.

Like I said before injuries suck, but the best way to handle them is to trust yourself and be patient.

Happy Sunday :)

Iced Coffee and Vegan Quesadillas!

It has been a few posts since I last gave a foodie adventure and I need to update everyone! Last Sunday was full of finding new places in the city and returning to one of my favorite hot spots. First on the list is Trist, an eclectic urban coffee house, tea house, and bar oozing with a mix of tables, chairs, couched and people. As soon as my friends and I found a little table, I ordered an iced coffee with soy milk and a bowl of watermelon, Megan got a smoothie, and Jenny got an iced coffee with Kahlula (one of the cool things about Trist is its a coffee shop/bar aka mixed coffee drinks :) ). My iced coffee was phenomenal and watermelon can never go wrong. Next time I would like to go to Trist for lunch and get a Make Your Own Garden Wrap.

After sitting and chatting at Trist for a while we made a move to Busboys & Poets! I am a huge Busboys & Poets fan, every time I have been the food is delicious and the atmosphere is full of energy. This time at BB&P I started off with a large house salad and then got the Vegan Quesadilla. The Vegan Quesadilla was filled with roasted red peppers, grilled portobello mushrooms and onions, spinach, and soy cheese served with guacamole, pico de gallo, and vegan sour cream. This quesadilla was muy muy bueno!! I was in the mood for Mexican and this quesadilla satisfied my Mexican food cravings.  Thank you Busboys & Poets for another successful foodie outing!

On to the next adventure!
