Nail a Faster Finish
Ok so with two races coming up (one is a definite yes and the other depends on transportation) I have been incorporating tempo training into my daily runs. Tempo runs like rest days are extremely important because they help tweak your body to become more efficient. While tempo training may su!k sometimes because your legs are fatigued, it is the best way to get faster and stronger, no matter how...

Bittersweet Moments
Bittersweet: So I was talking about bittersweet moments with some of my friends earlier and about all of the different definitions. One of my dear friends said a bittersweet moment for him is, “The moment I bite into the most delicious tart I have ever tasted and after I have consumed it all I realize there is no more”. Then another one of my friends said a bittersweet moment for...

Power House Nutritional Yeast
For those of you who have no idea what Nutritional Yeast is let me share with you a little something about this nutrition power house…. Nutritional Yeast is a deactivated yeast- meaning unlike regular yeast it doesn’t make things rise so do not use it in baking. Nutritional yeast has 18 different amino acids, making it a complete protein, with 8 (8!) grams of...

Somehow though I woke up feeling rested, so I am just going to go with this bolt of energy and crank out a blog post. Did I mention I’m listening to old school J.Lo while writing this too? Anyways there are a couple of things I want to share with you. First, this past weekend I bought bright neon...

Season of Winter Vegetables
The squash I had fixed for tonight’s dinner was a huge success. Thank you fall and winter months for supplying such lovely and tasty vegetables.                           The Alaskan salmon turned out delicious as well! So excited there is a small amount of leftovers for me to enjoy tomorrow.                       Goodnight!

Making Tracks and Tonight's Dinner
Today’s long run was fantastic! I put in around 10 miles and felt great during it all. There are a few things I love to do during a run. Here they are in a list: 1) sing (in my head, if I don’t have an iPod). 2) think about everyday things 3) make dinner menus 4) go through what I have to do at work 5) Nothing….by nothing I mean keep my mind clear and focus on the path in...

Hills
Hills, Hills, Hills. This morning as the sun was coming up over the Washington Monument; it was me and Capitol Hill. This morning was all about the hill and pushing it hard. I have been a fan of hill workouts since high school when we would run the West Wesley loop or Laramie Street. These workouts would suck, but at the end of them; damn did you feel...

When you want something sweet
I just came across the most beautiful looking Vegan Raw Apricot Swirl Cheesecake Mini Pies courtesy of blogger Diet, Dessert, and Dogs by way of Foodgawker.com. These mini pies just looked to good to eat and knew I had to post about them and share with you. I have been wanting to make a fancy vegan dessert such as Diet, Dessert, and Dogs’ mini pies or a vegan peach cobbler like this...

Marvelous Monday
Happy marvelous Monday morning everyone! I went to bed last night by 10 (yay!) and slept till 6 (double yay). No workout this morning; after yesterday’s long run and that was 4 workouts days in a row so I thought/wanted/knew to take the day off. I have posted before, rest days, are crucial! When I was in high school and doing Cross Country, I thought rest...

How much is too much?
When do we know we are doing too much and pushing ourselves too hard? I am up at 5:20am and in bed by 11pm during the weekday. From the moment I wake up till the  moment my head hits the pillow it is go-go-go-go, but for some reason I want more. One of my all time favorite vegan restaurants has a few open positions in the kitchen and upfront. My dream; Working in a vegan restaurant and getting...

FALL! What makes you excited for Fall?
I know they say fall starts September 23rd, but I think fall started yesterday here in DC. When I left the office the skies were gray, it was windy outside, and it was chilly! I do not know where the warm weather went (kind of miss it), but I am so excited for fall weather to arrive. Fall for me means sweaters, riding boots, comforting soups and chili, best running weather...

Today, Part II
It’s Sunday and that means Bikram! After waking up, enjoying breakfast and iced coffee, I headed off to Bikram. On my way to class I ran into Whole Foods to get bananas, rolled oats, and spaghetti squash.  I was so excited the spaghetti squash was on special for .99 per/lb. I also bought two bottle of lemonade vitamin water zero to have before and after bikram. The walk to the yoga studio...

Today
Today we should honor and remember the thousands of heroes lost on September 11, 2001, who knowingly or not, gave up their lives for our freedom. When such a historical event as this takes place, it is our duty as American citizens to ensure that our future generations keep these memories alive; not dwelling on the sadness and devastation that occurred, but learning from the circumstances and...

Tomato, white bean, and qunioa soup
This recipe looks so yummy and perfect for when the weather starts to get chilly. I found it off of Food Gawker and it comes from The First Mess. tomato and white bean soup with quinoa or! tomato and bean soup with whatever you like serves: so many! it’s a big pot full notes: I really take the time to cook out the tomato paste so that the raw, saltiness kind of dissipates. You should too!...

What'd Ya Think?
After completing two runs in my new Terra Momentus Newtons, I have to give them two thumbs up! However, I am still in a trial period with them, because I have worn shoes before that I thought were the best thing since sliced bread and then boom they sucked. Here is what I think about the Newtons: Once I slipped on the Terra Momentus and took my first step, I felt a difference on the ball of my...

Rock N Roll
Hello! I apologize for not posting over the past three days, I have not been by my computer as much which quite frankly has been nice. Anyways, I wanted to share with you my excitement for my new Newton Terra Momentus shoes! I have run in Newtons before and really enjoyed wearing them, but their high price tag made me drift away from purchasing them again. My younger sister...

Pancakes!
I have been trying to avoid going to Whole Foods before I head home for Labor Day weekend. Avoiding one of what I would consider one of my favorite places to go to has been tough, but at the same time it is teaching me to use the ingredients in front of me. For example, I ran out of steel cut oats on Tuesday. No oats means no vegan over night oats for breakfast....
